What is Required to Start Building?
Below are the items you will need to start building a shed.
- Accessory Building Permit
- Survey of property with the proposed shed location
- Details or plan for the proposed shed
- Stormwater Management Plan application form
- Workers Compensation Insurance Information – or the contractors’ Worker’s Compensation Certification name Whitehall Borough as the certificate holder.

What are the Regulations on Sheds (Accessory Use Buildings)?
- One (1) shed (Accessory Use Building) is permitted on each lot in Residence Districts R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-7. Sheds (Accessory Use Buildings) in Residence Districts R-5, R-6 and R-7 are covered by regulations for those districts.
- A shed:
- Must be fully enclosed
- Can be no more than 120 square feet in floor area.
- Can be no more than 10 feet in height.
- Must be in the rear yard.
- Must be no closer than 5 feet from the rear yard.
- Must be no closer than 10 feet from the dwelling.
- Must meet side yard requirements:
- 7.5 feet for lots in Residence Districts R-1 or R-2.
- 5 feet for lots in Residence District R-3 or R-4.
What is the Permit Fee?
Permit fee is $25.00, (checks payable to the Borough of Whitehall) at the time the applicant picks up the permit.
