CELEBRATING 75 YEARS of Whitehall Borough!
Petitions for the formation of Whitehall Borough began on October 11, 1946 and hundreds of soon-to-be residents signed on. Nearly 18 months later, on January 5, 1948, Whitehall Borough would become an operational municipality after Judge Soffel granted the petition of Whitehall to become a Borough in 1947. Since then, the Borough of Whitehall has made remarkable milestones. Between 1949-1951, four recreation sites were purchased – Prospect Park, Overlook Park, Snyder Park and Frank Park. The Whitehall Borough Building and Whitehall Public Library were dedicated in 1963. Two years later, the original Whitehall Borough Swimming Pool opened followed by the Tennis Courts and Basketball court in 1974. That same year, Whitehall Borough became a Home Rule Municipality, which means the Borough operates under local law. The addition of the Police Department in 1984 completed the municipal complex as it is known today.
Borough Councils have funded numerous capital improvements over the decades, maintained sanitary & storm sewer infrastructure, completed a Neighborhood Parks Master Plan and are excited to complete the Borough’s largest project to date – the opening of the new Whitehall Borough Swimming Pool this Spring!
